Thick black smoke filled the skies over Northwest Miami-Dade Thursday morning after a massive fire broke out inside a warehouse. More than 200 firefighters rushed to the scene as the flames quickly spread inside the building — as of Friday morning, the fire continues to burn.
The reports started at 10:45 a.m. Crews from different counties spent several hours battling the flames while strong winds and hazardous materials stored inside the warehouse made the fire harder to contain.
The smoke could be seen from miles away as it darkened the sky across parts of the county. Fire rescue crews remained on scene as the situation continued to develop.
Officials also sent phone alerts to nearby residents warning about smoky conditions and possible respiratory risks caused by the lingering smoke.
So far, no injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities say the building, which is roughly the size of two Costco stores, could continue to smoke for several more days and possibly through the weekend.
