On Oct. 18, Women Impacting Neighborhoods, an activist organization, hosted its fifth annual Day For Survivors at the Miramar Multi-Service Complex. Dozens of people celebrated breast cancer survivors’ strength and resilience.
“An intimate setting brings a lot of women together to all sit under the same umbrella that’s fighting for breast cancer,” said program manager Linda Boston.
Guest speakers included U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Miramar Vice Mayor Yvette Colbourne and Miami Gardens councilwoman Katrina Baskin.
During a panel discussion, Roland Clark, the son of breast cancer survivor Delores Clark, shared his mother’s journey with the disease and expressed gratitude for events that raise awareness.
“Don’t just wear pink,” said Clark. “I think it’s more practical and more impactful to give people information.”
In recognition of her strength and resilience, Delores Clark was awarded the Regina Award.
