An increased influx of visitors brought by the World Cup has impacted local businesses across the city of Miami, as one of the major hosts of the tournament.
Watch parties have been a key source of revenue for restaurants and sports bars during this time of the year. Fritz & Franz Bierhaus is a local venue that has benefited from this phenomenon.
“Our sales are up 60% from a regular time in June and July,” said Austrian chef and business owner Harald Neuweg. “The people are more enthusiastic. They’re coming two hours before the game.”
One expert says the impact doesn’t rely on just hosting matches.
“We have fan fests that are full of people watching games that are not being played here,” said Ligia Trejo, an assistant professor of sport and recreational management at Florida International University. “It just has brought all of this money and financial impact to our city when it comes to hospitality, restaurants, or just everything people can take advantage of in South Florida.”
