Young college Republicans host debate watch party at the University of Miami (includes video story)

Republican students gathered inside the University of Miami’s Whitten Learning Center Tuesday night to watch the presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. The event was hosted by the University of Miami College Republicans in collaboration with the College of Republicans at FIU.

Jewish attendees were interested in the candidates’ responses to antisemitism in the United States and the war in Gaza, sharing that Trump’s legislation would make them feel safer in the country.

“I am Jewish and I think if Trump gets elected, it would benefit me a lot,” said Talia Gold, a University of Miami student. “I feel like many of the things that happened because of anti-semitism in this country wouldn’t have happened if he was president.”

While the young students disapproved of the moderators and Trump’s performance, many still hold that the former president is the best option.

“Trump is very clear with what he wants to do. He wants to end the war,” said Yishmael Columna, the president of Students Supporting Israel at Florida International University. “Everything could end in one day if Hamas surrenders.”
