Day of the Dead celebrations pop up in South Florida (includes video story)

The Consulate General of Mexico partnered with the city of Coral Gables to host their annual Day of the Dead celebration on Saturday.

The holiday is an annual tradition in which families set up colorful altars for late loved ones to pay a visit from the afterlife.

Guests learned more about the Day of the Dead by watching live performances, award-winning contests and shopping for traditional Mexican accessories.

“It fills us with pride,” said Eduardo Barrera, who represented Cancun Grill, a Mexican restaurant, at the Catrin contest. “It demonstrates a little bit of our roots and culture.”

This family and dog-friendly event is free for all ages and is hosted annually.
