FIU is home to growing surf community (includes video story)

Florida International University’s surf club is an emerging community at the school. With good vibes and great creative founders, the club maximizes the surfer experience for people who love surfing and for the ones who always dreamt of doing it.

Theo Lozano Wong, one of the founders and the current club president, talked to us about how the idea came to him — along with friends — to create a surf club.

Wong emphasizes how important was for him and his fellow surfers to build a community at FIU with people who wanted to have a good time catching waves and meeting new people.

“Even if you’re not good, you’re all getting better with each other,” said Anthony Vieites, club member and videographer.  “We’re learning to do something new and we’re finding out about ourselves even more.”

Club member Anastasia Rodriguez added that members of the club practice at a skate park because “the skill of skateboarding translates to surfing.”
