Future MFA students show off art work at National Portfolio Day hosted by FIU (includes video story)

Florida International University’s Art + Art History Department hosted the first Southeastern National Portfolio Day for MFA programs at the Kovens Conference Center on Monday afternoon to welcome students from around the world.

National Portfolio Day has been hosted in New York, Chicago and San Francisco. It helps undergraduates meet professionals from national and international colleges to present their art portfolios and get feedback.

“I want to encourage the next generation of potential BFA & MFA students,” said Mark Herrera, an MFA student at FIU and portfolio reviewer. “Because I was there, I remember being nervous about whether or not I was good enough to get into a program. So I want to be on that side of the table that says ‘Yeah, you can do this.”

There are 40 National Portfolio Days held annually in North America and parts of Europe by accredited international colleges and universities that are members of the National Portfolio Day Association.
