Community shocked by the death of a toddler left in a hot car (includes video story)

On Sept. 5 at around 2:40 p.m. a 2-year-old girl was pronounced dead by police at Bethlehem Lutheran Preschool in Jacksonville Beach after being trapped inside a hot car.

Investigators are not sure whether the incident was accidental or criminal. No one has been detained or arrested following the child’s death.

According to the National Safety Council, this year Florida reported at least 6 deaths of children who died inside a hot vehicle.

“It’s a shock to see this in our community,” local resident Annette Evans said. “This is a church I’ve been to all my life, and I just can’t imagine something like that happening here.”
