Parkland officer found not guilty for lack of action during shooting (includes video story)

Five years after the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that killed 17 people, former school resource officer Scot Peterson was found not guilty on all counts. Peterson, 60, was facing child neglect and other charges that could have given him up to 96 years in prison.

Peterson was the only armed officer at the school when the shooter opened fire, but he stood outside the building during the attack. After the shooting, he was forced to retire from his position for not protecting the students.

“I got my life back,” said Peterson, after the verdict. “We’ve got our life back. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster for so long.”
