Pond Hockey Classic attracts travelers and neighbors for 15th year (includes video story)

This year’s New England Pond Hockey Classic was a Meredith, New Hampshire community-wide success. The three-day event sold out and featured 275 competing teams on 26 ice rinks.

Due to unpredictable weather, neighbors banded together to flood Lake Waukewan with 3 million gallons of water, ensuring the tournament would continue despite the ice not being solid in its usual location.

Participants claim the Pond Hockey Classic is more important to them than Christmas and travel from all over the country to compete.

“We got guys coming in from Chicago, Philly, D.C. . . . a guy from California, Arizona,” shared Butch Hearn, an eight-time competitor.
