An Iowa woman suffered a shark bite in the Bahamas June 7 while scuba diving south of Taino Beach.
Heidi Ernst was taken to a local hospital before being flown to the Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, where her left leg was amputated.
“You kind of know what you’re walking into, especially being at a place like the Bahamas,” said tourist Elder Espinoza.
Ernst completed her 500th dive in May and will require more surgeries to heal correctly.
