Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Faraway Downs’ lands on Hulu and Disney-Plus (includes video story)

The enthralling world of “Faraway Downs” is now available on Hulu in the U.S. and internationally on Disney-Plus and Star-Plus. The series, inspired by a poignant quote, “My husband was killed in a faraway land,” brings forth a unique narrative twist.

Director Baz Luhrmann’s vision was to create a sweeping narrative similar to “Gone With the Wind” but from the viewpoint of the indigenous First Nations, told through the eyes of a young Aboriginal boy.

Luhrmann, known for his epic film “Australia,” found himself reevaluating his work during a pause in the filming of “Elvis” — which he also directed — when co-star Tom Hanks contracted COVID. This led to the creation of “Faraway Downs,” a six-episode series described by Luhrmann as a “movie in chapters.” Luhrmann not only worked on new music and graphics but also added substantial plot elements.

“Faraway Downs” promises a captivating blend of cinematic brilliance and cultural richness, inviting audiences to experience a journey that transcends boundaries and historical norms.
