FIU unveils Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media (includes video story)

The Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media was christened Friday at 11 a.m. on Florida’s International University’s Biscayne Bay Campus. The ceremony honors documentarian, attorney and benefactor Lee Caplin, whose $10 million dollar gift is intended to strengthen the future of journalism and media.

Caplin explained his idea in an interview last June: “In my view, telling the truth is not is not shaping it in a way that builds an audience, it’s shaping it in a way that tells the truth.”

Lee Caplin School Interim Director Susan Jacobson added: “The rebranding really gives us an opportunity to re-introduce ourselves.”

Also debuting: a Caplin News app (available in the Apple app store and elsewhere) where anyone can browse content. The event took place from 11 a.m. to noon in the atrium of Academic 2 on Florida International University’s Biscayne Bay Campus.
