Fort Myers residents evacuate sinking apartment complex (includes video story)

A Fort Myers apartment complex is at risk of falling into two sinkholes underneath the building.

Residents at 81 West, off Six Mile Cypress between I-75 and Tamiami Trail, were told to leave due to problem with the foundation. They were allowed to break their lease with no financial penalty and their moving costs covered.

“The concrete at my building is also cracking,” said Debbie, a tenant. “There are holes underneath peoples’ units over at building five.”
