Overflow of traffic in Miami-Dade prompts county to swap stop lights for roundabouts (includes video story)

Roads all over Florida are changing in an attempt to alleviate the state-wide traffic jam issue that everyday residents face. Miami is labeled as one of the most congested cities globally, which prompted Miami-Dade officials to tackle the problem.

Areas such as Pinecrest and Cutler Bay are in the process of replacing traffic lights with roundabouts to keep the flow of traffic moving, hoping to reduce the amount of time drivers waste sitting at red lights in the safest way possible.

Residents want this project to succeed. However, there are some struggles with the current road changes.

“Old Cutler is no longer a shortcut, and there are not many options to come south anymore because everything is backed up between Old Cutler, US-1, and the Turnpike,” said Cutler Bay local Tony Rojas.

Currently, residents are adjusting their schedules to match new traffic patterns, as many roads are closed due to construction.
