Cricket dominates the Lauderhill sports scene (includes video story)

Baseball is known as “America’s Pastime.” However in Lauderhill, the town’s sport is cricket. The city of Lauderhill hosts a yearly tournament of night cricket, which attracts people from many cultures.

Fans can expect music, games, food, and an overall laid back viewing experience. Every Saturday from March to the beginning of May, locals flock to Lauderhill Sports Park to get a look at the cricket tournament.

Leslie Johnson, who’s known as the “Queen of Cricket,” says, “This is the 23rd year we have been out here playing night cricket, and if you look around, there are happy people having a great time.”

As the game of cricket grows across the United States, the city of Lauderhill aims to use the momentum of the night cricket tournament and the incoming T-20 Cricket World Cup to boost the game’s popularity in South Florida.
