The two men killed in the tragic small plane crash on Interstate 75 near Naples, Florida, were pilot Edward Daniel Murphy, aged 50, from Oakland Park, and second-in-command Ian Frederick Hofmann, aged 65, from Pompano Beach, police said.
The crash sent shockwaves through the community.
“At first I couldn’t even tell what it was, it was just a cloud of smoke,” said resident Javid Kapadia. “And I just saw the landing gear. So I couldn’t even really see the plane because it was just on fire and it was just so much smoke.
The sound barrier protected the lives of hundreds, and residents are also thankful for the way the pilot handled the situation.
