Sideline Season 3, Episode 14

This week, Florida International University tennis hosted and won the Conference USA championships. Jorge Masvidal returned to his hometown of Miami ahead of his boxing match with Nate Diaz. The Panthers and Heat had opposite results in their playoff openers. Inter Miami won its second straight. And the Marlins split their series against the Cubs.

FIU tennis ran through a gauntlet of Conference USA’s finest to win it all. They bested the Liberty Flames in yesterday’s final. Sideline was on the court for the historic victory.

Masvidal had a brief homecoming for a press conference on Wednesday to hype his upcoming boxing match against Nate Diaz on June 1.

The Panthers dominated the first game of their playoff series yesterday against their in-state rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning. The raucous home crowd helped them assert early control in the game, and they did not let up. The final score was 3-1.

The Heat’s entry into the dance yesterday did not go nearly as well. The undermanned roster was outmatched by the 64-win Boston Celtics. The final score was 114-94.

The Lionel Messi effect was in full swing during Inter Miami’s match-up against Nashville on Saturday. He scored two goals on the way to a 3-1 victory.

The Marlins did not lose a series for the first time this season over the weekend. Yesterday’s game in the Windy City against the Cubs ended with the Fish winning, 6-3 — which ended the match-up in a 2-2 tie.
