This week, FIU tennis received some national buzz and Lauderhill night cricket’s juggernaut continued to expand. Both the Heat and Panthers suffered tough losses on the road. Inter Miami was back with star Lionel Messi at the helm. The Marlins finally snapped their early season cold streak. 

FIU tennis has caught fire recently late with a 14 -game win streak, including a victory this past weekend over USF. The team’s success has placed it within the top 40 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Players, staff, and fans alike discuss what this current run means to them. 

Lauderhill’s yearly night cricket tournament is in full swing. Players from diverse countries have found a home to compete in the sport they love with an ever-growing fanbase. 

The Heat fell short in a must-win game against the Indiana Pacers yesterday. The team managed to erase a 17-point deficit in the second half behind the crunch time heroics of the returning Tyler Herro. The Pacers weathered the storm though, winning 117-115. 

The Panthers lost another rivalry game on Saturday ahead of the playoffs. Both Aleksander Barkov and Mathew Tkachuk converted on goals, but it was not enough to put away the Boston Bruins in overtime. The final score was 3-2.

Lionel Messi returned from injury for Inter Miami on Saturday against Colorado. The Argentine superstar made his first goal only 11 minutes after being subbed into the match. 

The Marlins put their nine-game losing streak to bed after a 10-3 win against the St. Louis Cardinals. Jazz Chisholm Jr. led the Fish’s batting clinic with a three-run homer. 

Anthony Milian is a junior at Florida International University majoring in Digital Broadcasting. He enjoys watching and analyzing sports, reading and learning more about sports history, and spending time with his family and friends

Carlton is a Digital Broadcasting student and intends to pursue a career in journalism. Born and raised in Broward County, he hopes to combine his passion for this community and storytelling to deliver news, insights, and perspectives to the people of South Florida.

Kimora Miller is a senior seeking a bachelor’s degree in public relations, advertising, and applied communications at FIU. Her current interests involve sports entertainment, social media, collegiate dance, and on-air interviews.

Anthony Cruz is a sophomore majoring in Digital Media and Communications. A first-generation Cuban American, Anthony has been interested in local news since high school and hopes to pursue a career in reporting politics. He is also a lifelong South Florida sports fan.

Zeth Leon is of Cuban descent. He is currently a Junior at FIU majoring in Digital Communications and Media with a concentration in digital broadcasting. After graduation, he plans to incorporate his love for sports into his work by becoming a play-by-play commentator or talk show host for a sports network.

Kenneth Bueno is a junior majoring in the Digital Broadcasting field. He is a sim racing commentator for Podium eSports and aims to apply his love for sports into the sports broadcasting industry after graduating.
