Broward College board members are asking for updates on the “Broward UP” program five years after its start date.
Broward UP, which stands for unlimited potential, offers free workforce training to six “promise communities” with lower-than-average post-secondary education rates.
In June of 2021, the school received $30 million from the former wife of Jeff Bezos, Mackenzie Scott, which they allocated to Broward UP.
The board of trustees has asked for data supporting the program’s effectiveness but are still waiting for accurate numbers.
“If the people that need these programs aren’t getting these programs, then the system needs to change,” said Michael Dixon, a Broward College student.
