From Fort Lauderdale to Oman: Cremaschi’s debut in USMNT

One of the most pivotal moments for Inter Miami must revolve around the stellar on-field performance of its youthful and exceptionally talented roster. Including the exceptional talent of Key Biscayne’s very own, Benjamin Cremaschi.

Cremaschi, is an 18-year-old prodigy who recently earned a spot on the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT).

Fresh from his professional debut with Inter Miami in February of this year, Cremaschi received a summons from Coach Gregg Berhalter to don the USMNT colors, marking a monumental moment. On September 12, he made his USMNT debut in a thrilling clash against Oman.

“He fits in really well, Benja,” said Belhalter. “He’s a great kid, he learns really quickly. He’s adapting well to the speed of the game.”

Despite Berhalter’s optimism regarding the new recruit, he also mentioned his intentions for Cremaschi’s involvement: “He’s not gonna start the game, we’d love to get him a debut, we just have to see how the substitutions work.”

Cremaschi stepped onto the field in the 71st minute, replacing Malik Tillman. His inaugural appearance saw him grace the pitch for a remarkable 22 minutes.

With the most experienced mentors on his side within the team, Cremaschi’s skills have been nothing short of outstanding. Hailing from Key Biscayne, the young talent has been featured in more than 27 games for Inter Miami and has started 20 of them.

Through last week, the rookie had recorded a solitary goal, a right-footed strike. Yet, Cremaschi boasted an impressive 85% pass completion rate, having successfully completed 658 out of a total of 774 passes.

Per 90 minutes of play, Cremaschi averages a remarkable 40.5 passes. Four of these passes have translated into crucial assists that led to goals.

The budding midfielder has taken aim at the goal 16 times, with seven of those shots finding their target, totaling 17 attempts overall. It’s evident that 2023 has been a whirlwind experience, igniting the spark of his professional career.

“I haven’t really had the time to sit down and really think about what’s happening,” said Cremaschi, “but it’s been an amazing year.”

An accolade that should not go unnoticed is the addition of three new pros to the Inter Miami roster this season: Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and the legendary Lionel Messi. These three massive figures have played a pivotal role in Cremaschi’s development and in the overall progress of Inter Miami as a team.

“I try to absorb everything these players do, they come from the best level in the world,” said Cremaschi. “They have won everything. As a young player with eagerness to learn, I talk to them and try to learn from them.”

Indeed, Benja Cremaschi’s future gleams with brilliance.

The USMNT is set to face Germany in a friendly match on Oct. 14. While the official lineup remains undisclosed, it’s likely that Cremaschi’s name will be among those called to grace the field.
