Protests arise against Florida immigration Senate Bill 1718 (includes video story)

“A Day Without Immigrants” protest was organized to express opposition to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ new SB 1718 immigration law.

During the protest, immigrants and their supporters chose not to work, attend school or
engage in economic activities to demonstrate the essential roles immigrants play in the
workforce, education system and the overall community.

“We’re all here to send a message to the immigrants in Florida that they’re not alone,” said Juan Jose Guitierrez, director of the Full Rights for Immigrants Coalition. “That we hear their plight, that we know that they’re suffering, that they’re being unjustly punished.”

Participants in the protest engaged in peaceful demonstrations, rallies and speeches,
expressing their concerns about the law and advocating for fair treatment and equal
opportunities for immigrants.
