As concerns increase over the coronavirus and the disease that it causes — COVID-19 — many people want to get tested. However, some don’t know the symptoms. It’s important to at least have an idea of what differentiates it from a common cold or the flu.
According to Dr. Mary Jo Trepka, a Florida International University epidemiologist who was interviewed by SFMN last month as the disease took off, the most common symptoms are a fever, a cough and shortness of breath.
The most common symptoms of the flu include fever, body aches and fatigue. People with colds usually sneeze and have both a sore throat and a runny nose.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms to seek immediate medical attention. Testing may follow.
