Community fridge opens in Florida City (includes video story)

On Thursday, Aug. 31 local nonprofit organization Buddy System established its tenth community fridge in Florida City, which they plan to maintain full and accessible to locals who cannot purchase food but need nutritional groceries.

The leaders of this project recentlhy gathered volunteers, locals, and other nonprofit organizations to celebrate the opening of the community fridge.

“Our fridge is an amazing way to get folks’ attention and give them other resources they might need to succeed,” says Jessica Gutierrez Castillo, co-founder of Buddy System.

The fridge will remain open 24 hours and seven days a week, It is located at 753 W Palm Dr. Florida City. Food supplies, clothing, or any other non-perishable items are appreciated by the wider community.
