Hurricane Nicole hit Florida this morning, becoming the first hurricane in 40 years to impact the U.S. this late in the hurricane season.
Powerful storm surge is taking over towns that are still recovering from Hurricane Ian devastation. Volusia County is in a battle against high-tides, coastal erosion and rising seawaters.
The storm left more than 20 homes inhabitable and prompted authorities to warn residents who have not yet evacuated to take precaution.
“We’re not going to come to drag you out of your house,” said Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper. “If you’re in the evacuation zones and you don’t leave, then it’s your responsibility to take care of yourself.”
