Kenneth Jessell named new FIU president (includes video story)

After almost a year of deliberation, the search is finally over. On Monday, the Florida International University Board of Trustees voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Kenneth A. Jessell as its sixth president.

Jessell held six open forums leading up to yesterday’s meeting. He has promised the four key pillars of his presidency to be student success, research excellence, sustainable resources and affinity and engagement.

He expressed his excitement about the role: “I am so emotional…I didn’t realize how much I love this institution.”

On Nov. 9 and 10, the Florida Board of Governors will meet to officially confirm his presidency.
