The increasing number of American medical tourists can be attributed to pursuit of more affordable healthcare. The United States healthcare system is the most expensive in the world. It is not difficult to find countries that offer various procedures at 30%–65% of the cost of care in the United States.
Other countries can charge less because of lower pay to healthcare workers and lagging technology. The United States typically acquires first access to novel medical developments, which are frequently discovered at American universities and developed by American corporations.
“There are three main reasons why that happens: payroll, medical supplies, and the technology that we use,”said Nancy Mora.
