Haitian First Lady Martine Moïse is recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital from gunshot wounds she suffered in the attack that killed her husband, Jovenel Moïse.
She was transported to Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport by air ambulance yesterday afternoon. The Haitian Ambassador to the U.S., Bocchit Edmond, has said that she is now stable and on the road to recovery. The couple’s children are safe and under protection.
Prime Minister Claude Joseph announced that Haiti is officially under a state of siege, closing all borders and temporarily imposing martial law.
Haitian police say they have arrested two suspects in the killing that took place in Port-au-Prince early Wednesday. The authorities killed four others in relation to the president’s assassination. The suspects are believed to be foreigners, but their nationalities have not been determined. One American citizen has been arrested.
