Trump NATO remarks criticized by White House and Sen. Marco Rubio (includes video story)

Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) and the White House commented on remarks made by former President Donald Trump about the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Trump stated that if he were commander-in-chief again, he would tell Russia to attack any NATO member country that does not pay its part of the organization’s military budget.

“Donald Trump is not a member of the Council of Foreign Relations,” emphasized Rubio. “He doesn’t talk like a traditional politician, and we’ve already been through this.”

The White House was forceful in its criticism, calling Trump “unhinged.”

National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said yesterday that President Joe Biden takes NATO membership very seriously. He noted that the president has stated multiple times that the nation will defend every inch of NATO territory.
