Universities across Florida protest the HB 999 bill (includes video story)

Chanting was heard at Florida International University’s main campus as students and faculty alike stood before the Charles Perry building. This was in response to House Bill 999.

HB 999 proposes that funds for DEI programs get cut, which affects the community at large not only at FIU but at other public colleges and universities across the state of Florida.

The restrictions on education have caused some faculty to leave the public university setting in Florida.

“I have two colleagues who have taken positions at other universities this month and they’re leaving,” FIU Professor Philip Stoddard said. They are excellent colleagues,” he continued.

The fight continues against these social legislations that threaten everyone’s education.
