FIU women’s basketball to face crucial showdowns in conference play (includes video story)

The women’s basketball team at Florida International University has begun Conference Play undefeated and is currently on a seven-game winning streak — the longest since 2004.

They sit in the second seed of Conference USA with a 4-0 record. But this week is bound to shake up the standings.

The Panthers are slated to face third-seeded Western Kentucky University tonight and first-seeded Middle Tennessee State University on Saturday.

The pressure is high, but head coach Jesyka Burks-Wiley believes the culture the team has fostered will push her players over the hump.

“I think our kids have done such an incredible job of doubling down,” says Burks-Wiley. “They’ve believed in the process, believed in the work believed in each other and it’s allowed us to be here now.”
