“Escape the Chains” raises awareness about human trafficking in Florida. The podcast features organizations that help restore and rescue survivors. Listen as we feature the stories of several women who have adjusted to life after being trafficked.

Episode 1: The Recruitment Process

Faith Escarda sits down with Gloria Martinez, a human trafficking survivor, who helps young girls through her nonprofit organizations. Martinez talks about the red flags of human trafficking and the services available at the Tree of Life Parenting Center and Taking Back the Girls.

Episode 2: The Recovery Process

A survivor from Selah Freedom, an anti-human trafficking non-profit organization, explains how technology plays a role in human trafficking. She also shares how the organization provides safe housing, outreach, and advocacy to survivors.

Faith Escarda is a bilingual artist and digital designer at Florida International University. She is a part of FIU’s Spanish-language newscast and the Kopenhaver Center Leadership Boot Camp.

Escarda has a website where she shares her passion for the arts with fellow creatives. She hopes to freelance as a content creator, travel photographer, and web designer full-time

Escarda will graduate from the Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media with a bachelor’s degree in Digital and Interactive Media in Spring 2024.
