iWitness takes the stage at FIU’s Biscayne Bay campus (includes video)

The inaugural iWitness Fellows Weekend kicked off last Friday at Florida International University’s Biscayne Bay Campus, introducing students , staff and the public to a new program called iWitness.

FIU professor and master of ceremonies Dr. Rebecca Friedman opened the event at 11 a.m. iWitness fellows, including Miami Herald photographer Carl-Philippe Juste, Dean and Deputy Director of the International Center of Photography’s school Colette Veasey-Cullors, four-time Pulitzer Prize winner Carol Guzy and former Herald photographer C.W. Griffin introduced themselves before participating in a discussion about the voices of defiance in Latin America and the Caribbean, Another talk focused on teaching “visual language.”

“The visual language is the key to anything that needs to be shared, whether good or bad,” said Juste.

Students working on almost anything visual can consult with the fellows at their offices, which are n FIUs’s Academic Center Two classroom building, room 233.

Laura Palfrey is pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Digital TV and Multimedia Production. With a passion for storytelling and visual media, she aspires to work in television as a news producer upon graduation. Her hobbies include photography and traveling.
