Sideline, Season 3 Episode 9

Sideline returns for its ninth show of 2024. This past weekend, the Miami Open kicked off and Inter Miami showed up in Washington DC without star Lionel Messi. The Heat swept its series against the Pistons, the Panthers fell into a two-game skid, and FIU basketball wrapped up its season in the Conference USA tournament.

The Miami Open cranked up yesterday in Hard Rock Stadium with the start of the qualifiers. Sideline was in Miami Gardens to preview the week of action before the beginning of the first round on Wednesday.

Inter Miami managed to squeeze out a win against D.C United on Saturday. Luis Suarez led the way with two goals in a 3-1 victory. Sideline was on the pitch in the nation’s capital.

The Heat turned its losing streak into a winning one over the weekend in Detroit. Duncan Robinson was the star of the weekend in the state of his alma mater. He became the fastest player to reach 1,000 threes made in NBA history behind a 30-point outing in Miami’s 104-101 win yesterday.

The Panthers returned on Saturday to Florida after a 4-0 loss to the Hurricanes to face Tampa Bay. The Lightning redeemed their blowout loss to the Panthers in February with a 5-3 win.

Both the FIU men’s and women’s basketball team’s were bounced out in the quarterfinals of their respective Conference USA tournaments. Arturo Dean’s late-game heroics led the men’s squad past the qualifying matchup versus Jacksonville State, but they fell to #1 Sam Houston. The surprise of the weekend was the third-seeded women’s team being upset by #6 New Mexico State in a gritty 63-58 affair.
